MathType is a tool that you use with your favorite word processor or presentation program to add mathematical notation to your documents.

In this section we'll show you how simple it is to create an equation and add it to your document.

If you are still with us, let's start the demonstration.

We'll be using MathType for Windows with Microsoft Word, but it works the same way with newer versions of MathType and Word, other word processors, and with MathType for the Macintosh.

Here is the MathType window with the word processing document behind it.

Across the top of the MathType window are rows of pop-up menus containing more than 280 mathematical symbols and templates ready to be added to the equation.

First, choose the letter theta from the Greek menu, then the parentheses template from the Fences menu.

The L-shaped insertion point shows that any new items will be inserted inside the parentheses.

Next, insert a fraction

MathType automatically sets r and x in italic type, recognizes the sin function and changes it to plain type and automatically applies proper spacing according the rules of mathematical typesetting.

MathType автоматически напечатает r и x наклонными, распознает функцию sin (и потому её название напечатает без наклона) и автоматически подберёт надлежащие интервалы в соответствии с правилами набора математических формул.

Next, move the insertion point down into the denominator slot by hitting the

When your equation is finished, simply Cut and Paste into your document using the system clipboard.

If you are using an application that supports OLE (almost all Windows applications, Microsoft products on the Macintosh) or EGO (many applications on the Macintosh), simply closing the MathType window inserts the equation into your document.

Если же Вы используете приложение, которое поддерживает OLE-технологию (почти все приложения Windows, продукция Microsoft на Macintosh) или EGO (многие приложения в Macintosh), то само закрытие окна MathType вставит выражение в Ваш документ.

Later, if you want to make changes, double-click on the equation to automatically re-open the MathType window.

Позже, если Вы пожелаете совершить изменения, двойной щёлчок по выражению позволит вновь открыть окно MathType.
